Subsurface Veterans
Our Purpose

To coordinate and lead United States Military Veterans scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing trips and excursions to help the Veterans recover and reset from military stress and combat-related injuries.

Teach United States Military Veterans how to scuba dive, allowing them to learn a new skill and thereby assisting in their mental and physical recovery from military stress and combat-related injuries.

​

Coordinate connections between Veterans and successful individual mentors in various fields of expertise to assist in Veterans development of life plans.


Coordinate and lead underwater archeology missions including Veteran participation, with a focus on locating and recovering missing persons and artifacts from different wars.


Coordinate and lead coral reef system and fish resources research and restoration programs with Veterans.

Jeff Samuel was born In Virginia Beach, Virginia. 


In Dec 1996 Jeff joined the US Navy. After completing boot camp and Radioman (RM) school he travelled out to Coronado CA to attend BUD/S. After completing BUD/S in class 215 he became a Navy SEAL and was stationed in Little Creek, VA at SEAL Delivery Vehicle(SDV) Team 2. Prior to heading to SDVT-2 he attended SDV school and mixed gas diving courses. Upon arrival at SDVT-2 he completed thousands of dives piloting, navigating the SDV and other special mission dives.

Also, while at SDV Team 2 Jeff received his dive supervisory certificate. He was able to supervise basic SCUBA, Closed Circuit and Mixed gas diving. He was also certified to supervise SDV and Dry Deck Shelter(DDS) dives. This required the very best as it is one on the most risk adverse diving in the US Military. 


After spending 8 years at SDV Team 2 he was assigned to the SDV school in Panama City Beach, FL. While instructing and supervising complex SDV and mixed gas dives he received his Master Training Specialist credential. This took both writing curriculum and implementing new teaching techniques. 


In 2007, Jeff was assigned to Naval Special Warfare Development Group. While stationed at NSWDG Jeff went on 13 combat deployment with hundreds of missions requiring him to be at his best. Also, while assigned at NSWDG he was an integral operator in 3 National Defense operations. In 2008, he was severely injured in a combat mission in Iraq. This injury kept him in ICU and in a hospital bed for over a month. Due to his self-determination, he recovered and made his teams next combat deployment. 


Jeff was selected to be the team leader on a successful US hostage rescue mission in Afghanistan in 2012.
After completion of his last deployment he built an undersea component for NSWDG. With this position, he directed all aspects of NSWDG combat diving to including training design and implementation, development in navigation and propulsion equipment, and developed precision combat diver tactics. 


In January 2017, Jeff retired from the US Navy.
 

While serving in the US Navy, Jeff was awarded the NAVY CROSS, 4 Bronze Stars with Valor, 2 Purple Hearts, a Joint Commendation with Valor, and 5 Navy Achievement medals. 
 

Jeff received a 100% permanent disabled status from the Veterans Administration. 
 

After retiring he decided to take a break from government service and he became a PADI Scuba Instructor. He also became a SSI and SDI instructor.
 

Jeff was hired back at Naval Special Warfare Development Group as the Undersea Director overseeing all aspects of undersea warfare.
